Flag of Nepal – The only non-quadrilateral flag

The Flag of Nepal

The Flag of Nepal is the only National flag in the world that is not a square or a rectangle. Nepal’s flag made up of orthogonal triangles where one is placed on the top of the other, outlined with blue stripe. The smaller upper triangle bears the image of the rising sun on the horizontal crescent moon, which represents the royal family and its power. The larger lower triangle displays the white twelve-pointed sun that represents the Rana family and the political power. The combination of these two symbols represents that the independence of Nepal will last as long as there is sun and moon. The Flag of Nepal soars high at several mountain peaks in Nepal including the Mount Everest.

The year is already 2076 in Nepal!

Nepali calendar

Nepal has its own calendar called the “Bikram Sambat”, which is 58 years ahead of the Gregorian calendar. The Nepali calendar starts in mid April. Another interesting fact about Nepali calendar is that each month can have up to 32 days. The Vikram Samvat is the official calendar used for administration in Nepal. All the people in Nepal follow the Nepali calendar.

You will too once you are in Nepal. Anything you receive with a date on it will say 2076 as the year and have a different date. For instance the date today as per Nepali calendar is the 5th and the year is 2076. Shocking but a fact that Nepal is more than half a century ahead of the world!
